"For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways,"declares the LORD.
Isaiah 55:8
Once again, the gallops made Adenike bump into the dirty-looking man sitting beside her.
She had been on the road for over five hours now. Irritated, she tried to move as much as she could away from him.
As if that wasn't enough, the girl in front of her wouldn't stop talking. She had been chattering for two hours non stop. She was pissed. "What the heck! Does she think she is the only one here."
Just then, she imagined pulling her hair and yelling at her to keep quiet.
It was such an awful journey. She just couldn't wait to get down from the disgusting bus.
The bus soon came to a halt. Adenike highlighted from the bus, unsure of her surrounding.
She was bewildered. There were people everywhere. It seemed like a small crowded village.
Just then, a woman approached her. "Aunty, I dey sell earring, fine fine one wey go fit you. Shey make I bring am?"
Adenike shook her head in response and turned the other way.
"So, this is the Lagos." Adenike whispered to herself.
She wanted to run back inside the bus and tell the driver to take her back to Abuja. At least, she was safe in Citadel than in Lagos where she knew no one.
She folded her arms around the small bag which she carried as she tried to remember why she had left in the first place.
After her dream that night, she started seeing strange beings everywhere.
Even though, her heart was so heavy, she couldn't figure out why! If she had remained, she would have gone insane.
Her eyes caught a man coming towards her direction. He was dark, short and had dreadlocks on. She kept her gaze on her bag which she clung closely to her chest, trying as much as possible not to be afraid. She started to walk away.
"Madam, we get nice jeans wey go size you. You see as your waist slim like this, just rock am with the correct jeans. You go see as guys go dry rush you".
He was still following her.
Although Adenike planned to ignore him, she couldn't restrain herself after he touched her wrist. "Are you mad? Shey you dey crase? You better no let your hand touch me again."
"See mumu wey person wan help bring out her shape. Abeg waka jare. No be say you too get shape like that sef." The man replied slyly and walked away.
Adenike walked briskly away as the man turned to two ladies standing in front of an okada rider.
She didn't know the next action to take. She had managed to take some amount of money from Murdock's drawer, but she was not sure how far the money would sustain her.
She passed by a food joint where a group of men were chattering away. The sign post read "Mama Super restaurant".
Immediately, she approached a woman who appeared to be the owner of the joint. She was ordering a girl to pack the dirty dishes on the tables.
"Abeg where I go fit see hotel wey I fit lounge."
"Just carry bike tell them say you dey go the hotel wey dey Alhaji Muritala Way. Na better hotel be that, I done..."
Adenike cut her off as she tried to explain further.
"Thank you ma".
*************
Adenike was in awe as she examined the hotel.
"Hmm this isn't bad." She wispered to herself.
The building was a gigantic one. Everything in the reception room was painted white, except for the red flower vase on the glass table.
"Good evening. I would like to book a room for the night."
She entered the small room and glanced at it. She would manage the place since that was what she could afford.
She jumped on the bed. She needed to rest badly.
Before she could scream, he gave her two heavy slaps. Adenike tried to take a look at him. An old man? He had a wrinkled face and lustful eyes. She tried to fight him off but he was too strong.
Placing his hand above her head, he roughly forced his way through her.
It was a dream.
Adenike went livid as the memory of her first time with the old disgusting man came flashing back at her.
She felt those demons drumming in her head again. Unable to hold the pain, she gasped for breath till she passed out.
Adenike woke up the next morning with blood shot eyes and swollen cheeks. As she tried to stand, she discovered that her arms were heavy for her to carry. She scanned the room and found it different from her hotel room.
"Where the hell was she this time." She thought.
She continued taking in on the beautiful cozy room she was in.
She would have thought she was dead but the place appeared too beautiful to be the hell fire she usually heard about. So, she concluded she was not dead
The door opened and an old man came in with a tray containing a plate of fries and bottle water.
She was taken aback. The man was different from every other old men she had ever seen in her life. One could almost not tell he is an old man, except for his beautifully combed grey hair which enhanced his looks further.
He was just too handsome and she felt there was something about his eyes.
"Another old man?" Adenike whispered to herself, shaking visibly as tears filled her eyes. She drifted backwards.
'How are you feeling now?" His calmness made her relax a bit.
"Who are you?" She replied gazing at his eyes.
