That Sunday, she went to church.
Not because she wanted to, but because she couldn’t think of a good enough excuse to skip.
She sat at the back, arms crossed, her heart as heavy as her mind. The worship team was singing, hands lifted, voices full of passion.
She used to be like them.
She used to feel God’s presence so easily.
Now?
She felt like a stranger in His house.
She was about to tune out completely when the pastor’s voice cut through her thoughts.
“Some of you are fighting battles you were never meant to fight alone.”
Her breath caught.
“The devil isolates you so he can destroy you. He convinces you to stay silent, to handle it by yourself, to pretend you’re okay, because he knows that the moment you speak up, the moment you ask for help, he loses power over you.”
Adebisi’s pulse thundered in her ears.
Was this for her?
The pastor’s voice softened.
“You don’t have to stay in the dark. Help is here.”

After service, she didn’t run.
She didn’t hide.
She walked up to Pastor Segun, the one who had been speaking, and asked for help.
Sitting in his office felt like sitting in a courtroom.
Except, this time, she was both the accused and the witness.
Pastor Segun listened as she told him everything. The anxiety, the medication, the debt, the spending. The emptiness.
When she finished, she couldn’t look at him.
She waited for judgment.
Instead, he said,
“You’re in a battle, Adebisi. And battles require strategy.”
She frowned. “What do you mean?”
“Anxiety is not just a condition; it’s a spirit that wants to control you.”
He leaned forward.
“But do you know the most dangerous thing about it? It convinces you that you’re powerless.”
She swallowed. “Aren’t I?”
He smiled. “Not even close.”
